Life Is Like A Song

A posthumous song cycle curated by Wanda Rogers, tracing love, family, faith, and farewell through Kenny’s final recordings.
Life Is Like A Song LP

Released on June 2, 2023, Life Is Like a Song stands as a deeply personal posthumous release from Kenny Rogers. More than an archival collection, the album unfolds as a carefully sequenced song cycle — one that mirrors the arc of his life and, most intimately, his enduring love story with his wife, Wanda.

Curated by Wanda Rogers from recordings made between 2008–2011, the album moves through passion, partnership, fatherhood, devotion, loss, and ultimately goodbye. In listening from beginning to end, we are invited into something more than music — we are invited into memory.

Kenny & Wanda

When listening to these recordings, it's a beautiful reminder that everyone has experiences that these songs describe. Kenny had a gift of expressing so many people's feelings through his music and his voice. He reaches millions, but because he was so humble, he didn't realize the impact he truly had. To be able to share these tracks with his fans is so exciting. It's what Kenny would want. He would be so proud of this album. He has gone on to better things, but he will always be with us, through our memories and his music.

Love Is A Drug

The album opens not with nostalgia, but with fire. “Love Is A Drug” captures the urgency and exhilaration of first connection — the kind of love that feels consuming and unstoppable. In the album’s narrative arc, this is the spark: the pursuit, the hunger, the beginning of something life-changing. It sets the emotional tone for everything that follows.

I Wish It Would Rain

Where passion meets vulnerability, “I Wish It Would Rain” introduces longing. Reimagined with fresh production, the Motown classic becomes a meditation on heartache and emotional honesty. In the larger story, it reflects the fragile uncertainty that often accompanies love — the quiet fear of loss before permanence is secured.

Am I Too Late

with Kim Keyes

Originally recorded decades earlier, this reimagined duet asks a timeless question: is it too late to say what matters most? Paired with Kim Keyes’ soaring vocals, the song becomes a moment of confession. In the album’s arc, it feels like the turning point — the courage to speak love aloud before the moment passes.

Tell Me That You Love Me

with Dolly Parton

The reunion of Kenny and Dolly is more than nostalgia — it’s reassurance. Their unmistakable chemistry gives voice to the simple, powerful need to hear love spoken clearly. In the narrative, this is mutual devotion — love no longer questioned, but affirmed. Two voices, decades of friendship, and a promise sealed in harmony.

Straight Into Love

with Jamie O'Neal

Bright and melodic, “Straight Into Love” celebrates commitment without hesitation. There’s no second guessing here — only forward motion. As the story unfolds, this feels like partnership in full bloom: choosing each other, walking forward together, embracing joy without reservation.

Wonderful Tonight

Stripped back and intimate, this reimagined classic becomes a portrait of quiet admiration. Sung as if across a room, the song reflects mature love — not dramatic, but steady and present. In the allegory of Kenny and Wanda, this is the everyday beauty of marriage: simple moments made extraordinary by devotion.

Catchin' Grasshoppers

The emotional centerpiece of the album, “Catchin’ Grasshoppers” shifts the story toward fatherhood. Written for Kenny and Wanda’s twin sons, the song captures fleeting childhood moments and the sacredness of time. Here, love expands — from husband to father — anchoring the narrative in family and legacy.

Years from now I won't remember this day
I won't recall the field
But I'll remember my children's eyes
Lighting up like stars when they were five.

That's Love To Me

This is the pure declaration. “That’s Love To Me” distills devotion into simple truth — love not as grand gesture, but as presence, patience, and faithfulness. In the album’s arc, this feels like reflection — the settled certainty of a life shared deeply and intentionally.

I Will Wait For You

Cinematic and sweeping, “I Will Wait For You” introduces eternity into the story. The song carries the quiet understanding that earthly time is finite. In the arc of Kenny and Wanda’s life together, it feels like a promise that extends beyond goodbye — love continuing on the other side of loss.

Kenny Rogers, Goodbye

Goodbye

The album closes with grace. Written by Lionel Richie, “Goodbye” serves as both farewell and reassurance. It is not dramatic — it is grateful. In the final movement of this song cycle, Kenny speaks not only to Wanda, but to his family and fans: love does not end here.

Kenny Rogers, Goodbye

There's peace in where you are, maybe all I need to know
And if I listen to my heart, I'll hear your laughter once more
And so I have to say I'm just glad you came my way
It's not easy to say goodbye
